5 Takeaways from Elevate Conference 2019

Registration is open for Virtual Elevate Conference 2020. Here are our 5 takeaways from last year’s event.

Our 11th annual Paylocity Elevate Conference for clients wrapped up a few short weeks ago with record attendance. Clients joined us from across the country to participate in engaging sessions, network, and connect with our leadership and our various support and training teams. Get a taste of what they experienced with our five key takeaways from this year’s conference:

1. Getting Ready for Next
It’s an exciting — though sometimes challenging — time to be an HR professional. At this year’s Elevate Conference, we focused our sessions around the five macro trends impacting the industry: The Modern WorkforceThe Social EnterpriseRegulatory ComplianceAgile HR, and Machine Learning & AI. The names of the trends might sound intimidating, but they are topics HR professionals already encounter in everyday work. Leveraging data and technology, empowering and engaging employees, and staying on top of new regulations are daily challenges.

To help clients Be Ready for Next, Elevate sessions aimed to provide attendees with insight into these trends and solutions for how to address them to help employees and, ultimately, their companies. And there was something for everyone — attendees learned how to create an atmosphere of accountability; improve listening and tune in to what their workforce is thinking; build compensation structures; learn more about the new W-4; use data to impact business and talent; work with a multi-generational workforce, and so much more. Colette Carlson’s keynote was a hit, sparking a lot of conversation. As a human behavior expert, she helped attendees understand how they can create better connections with employees and leverage technology to improve communication and collaboration.

Many sessions were interactive, giving participants the opportunity for hands-on learning and plenty of inspiration to bring back to their teams. Some attendees could be heard making immediate calls back to their teams to share what they had just heard. Now, that’s on-demand learning!

2. Super-Users Emerge from Labs
A user’s experience of a software or platform is transformed when they become an expert. There were several “labs” at Elevate this year, providing clients an opportunity to how to get even more out of the solutions they already have by sharing best practices and ways to leverage features they may not be using. Members from Paylocity’s Learning & Development and Products teams led these sessions, setting up scenarios and activities so that clients could practice using real-life contexts in the products they use every day. The payroll lab showed attendees how to further streamline their current processes by taking advantage of calendars, setting up payroll reminders, going through void scenarios and more, while the onboarding lab showed users how to customize tasks like welcome emails, create event packets, and set up notifications.

Other labs included deep dives into Time & Labor, report writer, performance managementexpense managementdata and analytics, and more — some for advanced users and some for just getting the basics down. Participating in a lab was a great way for users to get better familiarity with the solutions they’re using every day and to help them work more efficiently. Clients unable to attend the Elevate in-person labs have access to a library of courses on our website, allowing them on-demand learning and increasing their Paylocity solution skillset.

3. The Connection Zone Moves the Needle
The Connection Zone is a high point for many Elevate attendees each year. It provides direct access to Paylocity product leaders to allow clients to test drive the latest features and help shape the product suite for the future. Participants were excited to be co-creators with an opportunity to impact the success of payroll and HR at their organization and for others in the industry.

Our clients know they can reach out to their dedicated Account Manager when they need support or troubleshooting for their Paylocity solutions, but at Elevate, product support came to them with our Ask the Expert section. Our support team was on hand to provide customized assistance to find solutions for our clients. They even had laptops set up so clients could log in to their own company platform and walk our experts through their questions, allowing for more interactive support. This is always a popular section at Elevate and one our clients continue to value as we partner together to create an easy and seamless user experience.

4. Power from the People
Anyone that has attended a conference knows that networking with other attendees is a must. Creating connections with others who share the same experiences and challenges gives a sense of community and allows you to learn from others as well as share your own ideas and approaches. Though our conference days were packed with sessions, there was plenty of opportunity for attendees to meet other people, whether it was during breaks or partnering up for an activity during a session. Many clients could be seen chatting with others after a session to discuss what they had just learned or to learn more about someone’s particular experience after they had shared with the larger group.

New at Elevate this year, we enhanced the networking experience with designated meetups. This allowed professionals to get together and discuss tips and tricks, challenges, and explore best practices with those in similar roles or industries. Meetup groups included healthcare and manufacturing industries, HR leaders, those new to Paylocity, addressing wellness in the workplace, and more. These meetups truly helped curate the conversations and ensure those who attended walked away from their networking session with a new perspective and a new connection.

5. Superfans Unite!
A lot of work goes into creating solutions that help our clients work smarter, more efficiently, and to the maximum potential at their companies. We love hearing how much our clients enjoy working with us, and we celebrate our biggest fans when we gather at Elevate Conference, including hosting a Client Appreciation Party at the House of Blues as our way of saying “thank you.” To help share the love, we launched our new PCTY Advocate Program at Elevate, where clients were able to sign up to become a peer reference. When someone in their industry is interested in finding a new HR and payroll provider, an advocate can provide personal insight into their experience. We even had our video crew on hand to capture our clients’ success stories. Hearing our clients get excited about what’s to come both at Paylocity and in the HR industry motivates us to continue delivering high-quality solutions and exceptional service.
