Finding My Place as a Technical Content Creator
October 21, 2025
My career didn’t begin with writing. In fact, becoming a technical content creator was my third job. Before that, I had already lived two completely different “career lives”—first as a business analyst, then as an application developer.
But somewhere along the way, I realized that what truly energized me was writing content that helps people. Explaining complex things in simple words, creating guides that make someone’s day easier—that’s what I really wanted to do.
From the moment I stepped into my first role as a technical writer, I knew this was what I was meant to do, and I never looked back. Writing gave me a unique opportunity to combine my love for clear communication with problem-solving, helping people understand complex ideas in a way that truly made their lives easier. It quickly became more than just a job—it became my passion and purpose.
Not long after, life took me to Sri Lanka, where I joined Airbase. My time there was nothing short of exhilarating. I had the rare chance to build a Help Center completely from scratch—a blank canvas waiting to be filled. Piece by piece, with the support of multiple teams, we created content that helped customers navigate the platform more confidently. It was challenging, exciting, and deeply fulfilling.
Then came a big change—Airbase was acquired by Paylocity. Like anyone facing such a transition, I was nervous. Would the culture be different? Would I still feel at home? But my fears eased quickly. Within weeks, I discovered that the culture at Paylocity reflected the same values I had come to appreciate—collaboration, transparency, and a deep respect for people. That familiarity made the change feel less like a leap and more like a natural next step.
At Paylocity, one of my first lessons was simple yet powerful: big companies succeed because they have great managers. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work under Josh Norris, Manager Knowledge Ops, whose leadership has been nothing short of inspiring. He guided us patiently as we migrated to a new knowledge base, trained us thoroughly, and—most importantly—made sure we never felt alone, even when challenges came our way.
For me, this was the first time I worked with such a large team. And instead of being overwhelming, it turned out to be empowering. There was always support and always someone to lean on.
What struck me most, though, was the transparency of Paylocity’s leadership. They didn’t just define our roles and responsibilities, they went above and beyond to make us feel truly at home. Even in a remote setup, I never felt disconnected. The sense of belonging I’ve found here is unlike anything I’ve experienced before.
Today, when I look back, I see a journey shaped by growth, change, and resilience. From figuring out my true passion, to building something from scratch, to finding a home in a much larger organization—I’ve learned so much along the way.
Paylocity’s vision and values continue to anchor me, pushing me to grow, to create, and to do better each day. And as I look ahead, I know this is only the beginning of an even more exciting chapter.
