This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements.  You must be available five days per week during designated work hours.  The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. This may include adjustments to on-site requirements or schedule expectations, as necessary.  

  

Position Overview

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Paylocity, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability, performance, and scalability of our systems. Your primary focus will be on incident management, driving down incident rates through proactive improvements, and ensuring the overall stability and quality of our application suite.


You'll work closely with Engineering and Operations teams to implement robust monitoring and alerting, conduct blameless postmortems, and develop tools that improve operational efficiency and system resilience. Our environment spans hybrid on-premises and cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will bring experience in building automation to increase consistency, accuracy, and speed in system operations and incident response, empowering teams to deliver faster and with fewer errors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Incident Response & Coordination: Lead or support real-time incident response efforts, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with stakeholders throughout the incident lifecycle.
  • Postmortem Practices: Facilitate and review blameless postmortems, ensuring action items are captured, prioritized, and executed to prevent repeat incidents.
  • Preventative Engineering: Implement preventative and proactive reliability measures, including automated failover, circuit breakers, chaos testing, and other SRE best practices.
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Configure and manage monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the health and performance of our applications, providing proactive issue detection and response.
  • Frameworks & Tooling for Reliability: Build and maintain internal platforms, libraries, and tooling that help engineering teams test, measure, and improve service reliability and recoverability.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner closely with Operations and Engineering teams to identify and eliminate root causes of incidents, driving meaningful reliability improvements across services, ensuring operational excellence.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Troubleshoot  issues related to the SaaS application, its integrations, and SRE processes. Provide timely resolution of incidents and root cause analysis.
  • Cross-Training Team Members: Mentor and cross-train other members of the SRE and engineering teams to share knowledge, improve team capabilities, and ensure all team members are equipped to troubleshoot and manage systems effectively.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide timely resolution of critical issues and incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining system health.


Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or in a similar role within a SaaS environment, supporting production systems at scale.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Proficiency in incident management tooling such as PagerDuty and FireHydrant, with a track record of participating in or leading incident response efforts.
  • Familiarity with reliability and resilience best practices, including SLOs, error budgets, chaos engineering, and failure mode analysis.
  • Strong hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools, especially Datadog and LogicMonitor, including metric collection, alert tuning, and dashboard creation.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible or Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog.
  • Knowledge of working in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and on-premises VMware environments.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues within a SaaS application and its underlying infrastructure.
  • Experience with .NET-based applications and familiarity with C# is a plus.

The base pay range for this position is $85k - $158k/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position offers a full range of benefits outlined here.
