Jira Administrator


Position Overview 

Product & Technology Operations applies principles of process design, governance, and tooling strategy to shape how teams plan, track, and deliver work. 


The JIRA Administrator plays a vital role in ensuring seamless project execution, collaboration, and operational excellence at Paylocity. We are looking for an individual leader to help us evolve our existing JIRA implementation to enhance project visibility and efficiency. This role is responsible for administering and optimizing JIRA across Product, Engineering, PMO and UX. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, developers, researchers, and operations—you will configure workflows, maintain governance standards, and ensure JIRA supports the Product and Technology operating best practices. You will also help teams adapt to evolving business and process needs by facilitating change, guiding adoption, and evolving existing systems to better support how we work. You will create dashboards, reports, and automations that improve visibility and alignment. Additionally, you will contribute to team culture by sharing expertise, supporting adoption, and fostering a collaborative, efficient environment. 


 Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing and optimizing Atlassian tools, enhancing project visibility and efficiency, supporting the Paylocity mission 
  • Configure and maintain JIRA projects, workflows, fields, permissions, and schemes. 
  • Partner with product, engineering, and UX teams to align JIRA usage with operating best practices. 
  • Facilitate change by stepping into existing systems and processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and evolving them to meet changing business needs. 
  • Create dashboards and reports that track delivery, capacity, and progress against commitments. 
  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced automations, APIs, and integrations with JIRA and other systems. 
  • Manage data migrations between projects during organizational restructuring. 
  • Lead JIRA and Confluence consolidation and migration efforts resulting from acquisitions. 
  • Troubleshoot issues, provide user support, and maintain clear documentation. 
  • Ensure smooth navigation and understanding of workflows through consistent governance. 
  • Break down complex tooling problems, identify patterns, and propose scalable solutions. 
  • Contribute to playbooks, training, and enablement materials for teams. 
  • Build strong relationships across functions to support alignment, adoption, and consistent usage. 

Education and Experience

 

Required Experience 

  • Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience administering JIRA and Atlassian tools in a complex, multi-team environments. 
  • Strong understanding of JIRA workflows, custom fields, permissions, and reporting. 
  • Experience designing and maintaining dashboards and reports for team and leadership visibility. 
  • Hands-on experience with JIRA automation rules, APIs, and advanced configurations. 
  • Understanding of business processes and how tooling supports them, with the ability to recommend improvements. 
  • Experience supporting agile practices such as Scrum or Kanban in JIRA. 
  • Proven ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams. 

Preferred Skills 

  • Jira Administrator Certification (ACP-100) strongly preferred; additional Atlassian certifications are a plus. 
  • Experience with Confluence administration or integrations. 
  • Familiarity with Advanced Roadmaps, JIRA Product Discovery, or JIRA add-ons 
  • Knowledge of SaaS product development environments and best practices. 
  • Stay current with Atlassian product updates and best practices.

The pay range for this position is $60 - $75 /hr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
