They leverage customer insights to deeply understand their problems, define the correct backlog priorities and create a clear Product brief.

This role requires a strategic, execution-oriented leader who thrives in technical problem spaces and regulatory complexity. You’ll drive the vision and roadmap for data retention workflows across our platform, helping customers meet compliance requirements, reduce risk, and optimize document lifecycle management. Success in this role means balancing retention policy sophistication with usability and operational scalability.

  • Navigate complex integrations. Coordinate dependencies, risks, and milestones across multiple Paylocity teams and external vendors
  • Prioritize for impact. Use data to balance customer value, regulatory requirements (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, IRS 274), and internal cost considerations. Identify high-leverage opportunities to automate compliance, improve retention transparency, and reduce manual workflows.
  • Lead cross-functional squads. Engineering, Design, InfoSec, Legal, Marketing) to ship and iterate quickly; bring clarity on goals and timelines.
  • Monitor market and competitive research on data privacy and document lifecycle trends—e.g., evolving state/federal retention laws, right-to-be-forgotten use cases, or secure access delegation—to keep Paylocity ahead of the curve.
  • Monitor and report progress. Define and track KPIs such as:
  •  % of client documents governed by active retention policies
  • Volume of purged vs. archived documents
  • Time to implement new legal or compliance policy
  • Champion partner and vendor relationships. Work with third-party providers as needed to align roadmaps, negotiate contracts, and ensure SLAs are met.
  • Provide strategic leadership. Mentor associate PMs and ensure documents initiatives ladder up to broader company objectives.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of product management experience with a track record of managing customer data compliance for high-impact SaaS solutions.
  • Demonstrated success owning a regulatory-sensitive or infrastructure-heavy product at scale.
  • Proven experience integrating with third-party APIs/vendors and coordinating complex internal platform integrations.
  • Exceptional ability to execute roadmaps, make data-driven trade-offs, and thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder-management skills; comfortable influencing at all levels.
  • Deep customer empathy and market insight, translating needs into impactful features.
  • Expertise using metrics to inform decisions and optimize performance.
  • Solid understanding of security and compliance requirements related to electronic documents (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, IRS 274).
