The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released the updated federal poverty guidelines for the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia, as well as separate guidelines for Alaska and Hawaii.


The 2016 Federal Poverty guideline amount for a single person household is $11,880 up from $11,770. The 2016 Alaska Poverty guideline for a single person household is $14,840 up from $14,720 and Hawaii now is $13,670 up from $13,550.


Employers who use the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Federal Poverty Level Safe Harbor to determine affordability of health coverage offers will apply the updated guidelines for 2016 calendar year reporting.
