Louisiana Released Revised Withholding Tables Under an Emergency Rule

February 15, 2018

Louisiana Department of Revenue has adopted updated Income Tax Withholding Tables through an Emergency Rule effective Feb. 16, 2018.
Alert

Louisiana Department of Revenue has adopted updated Income Tax Withholding Tables through an Emergency Rule. An emergency rule is a temporary, emergency adoption of a rule. This Emergency Rule shall be effective February 16, 2018, and shall remain in effect until the expiration of the maximum period allowed under the Administrative Procedure Act or the adoption of the final Rule, whichever comes first.

Employers should begin using the 2018 Withholding Tables as soon as possible, but no later than February 16, 2018.  Under the guidelines of Louisiana’s Emergency Rulemaking Provisions, these updates must go into effect within 5 days of Emergency Rules being announced. Due to the Nature of Electronic Payroll systems and the required testing to ensure proper updates result in the correct calculations, the late announcement of the required change does not provide for adequate time to ensure accurate updates to Electronic Systems.  As a result, our Government Relations Team in Partnership with our Industry Trade Associations to request additional guidance from The Louisiana Department of Revenue on how Employers should address updates to the system made after February 16, 2018.

In the interim we are working to update the Louisiana Withholding Tables over the coming weekend and will update with further information as soon as it becomes available.
