This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. They leverage customer insights to deeply understand their problems, define the correct backlog priorities and create a clear Product brief.
This role owns and leads the strategy, development, and execution of key product initiatives that drive business impact and customer value on a scale. You oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation through delivery, ensuring alignment with company objectives and market demands. You leverage deep business acumen to make data-driven decisions, prioritize high impact features, and manage complex dependencies across multiple teams. As a thought leader, you will guide and influence cross-functional teams, driving alignment on goals and execution while ensuring that products meet customer needs, security standards, and business outcomes.

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Principal Product Manager – Partner Portal to lead the strategy, development, and execution of our partner-facing platform that empowers service providers—including benefit brokers, CPAs, financial advisors, and HR consultants. This individual will play a pivotal role in transforming our Partner Portal into a powerful ecosystem that enhances collaboration, drives partner success, and supports mutual growth.
You will own the full product lifecycle—from ideation through delivery—ensuring alignment with business goals, partner needs, and market opportunities. This is a highly strategic role requiring a customer-centric mindset, strong executional leadership, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders to deliver a best-in-class partner experience.
Primary Responsibilities

- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle, managing complex dependencies, risks, and milestones across internal teams (Engineering, UX, Marketing, Sales, and Partner Success) while influencing and driving alignment to execute the Partner Portal vision.
- Balance product, customer, and business considerations while continuously refining the product roadmap based on partner feedback, usage data, and evolving market trends.
- Be a strategic advocate for service provider partners, driving a deep understanding of their workflows, challenges, and needs. Lead market research and competitive analysis to shape a compelling, differentiated partner platform strategy.
- Oversee the delivery of impactful product features, ensuring all initiatives are executed to the highest quality standards—on time and within scope—while delivering measurable business and partner outcomes.
- Identify new market opportunities and lead the development of innovative capabilities that expand partner functionality and integration potential, reinforcing Paylocity’s leadership in the Human Capital Management (HCM) space.
- Partner with senior leadership to align product strategies with corporate goals and broader partner enablement initiatives.
- Mentor and guide other product managers, contributing to the development of a high-performing product organization and promoting a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service provider partners to ensure alignment, manage dependencies, and streamline communication across all key initiatives.
- Communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap to executives, internal teams, and external audiences. Serve as a spokesperson for the Partner Portal and advocate for its value in both internal and external forums.
- Lead the continuous improvement of product management practices, introducing new tools, processes, and frameworks that drive product innovation and operational efficiency.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred
- 12+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record of owning and delivering complex, high-impact SaaS products at scale
- Experience building or managing partner-facing platforms, portals, or ecosystems, ideally in B2B SaaS or HCM technology
- Deep strategic thinking and problem-solving ability, with a proven capacity to align product development with long-term business and partner objectives
- Expertise in customer-centric product strategy, leveraging user insights, partner feedback, and usage data to guide roadmap and decision-making
- Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives
- Highly skilled in data-informed decision-making and defining, tracking, and acting on key product KPIs
- Experience managing large-scale initiatives and multiple concurrent projects across diverse business units and teams
- Proven track record of mentoring and developing product managers and cultivating high-performance teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate product vision and strategy across technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while bringing structure and clarity to complex product challenges
- Understanding of security, compliance, and privacy standards, particularly in regulated industries such as payroll, benefits, or human capital management
- Scrum Product Owner certification preferred
- Domain expertise in payroll, benefits, time & labor, or HCM strongly preferred

The base pay range for this position is $153k - $285k/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
