The Network Engineering Manager is responsible for network infrastructure architecture, design, implementation, stability, and availability, providing team leadership and technical guidance to team members. The role's success depends on building partnerships with software developers, engineering departments, and customers concerning data centers, corporate offices, cloud-based network connectivity, and vendors. This individual will ensure adequate monitoring of reliable and consistent data transmission and incident management. The position requires a hands-on leader, a player-coach with a blend of data center experience, and a history of involvement in maintaining a SaaS application development and delivery environment.

Who you are:

Network Engineering is the function that applies principles and techniques of engineering, mathematics, and computer/data science to the design, development, and operations of modern infrastructure for application connectivity. The Product and technology engineering family at Paylocity comprises Software Development, Database, SRE/Observability, DevOps, Virtualization, Operating Systems, Storage, Servers, and Networks.

  • Enthusiastic about developing the best-in-class network infrastructure to provide the ultimate customer experience in a remote-first environment.
  • An advocate for a data-centric, automation-first approach to continuously improving our network infrastructure monitoring, operations, and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current by learning and applying new technologies and tools to solve practical challenges.
  • Willingness to share your ideas in a collaborative environment with an open mind to receive constructive feedback and unafraid to seek out suggestions from other team members.
  • Able to independently initiate and plan to execute projects through others with high quality at the velocity needed by the business.
  • Excited by the prospect of identifying and implementing cutting-edge technology to consolidate/migrate data centers and scale the network infrastructure for a hybrid cloud environment.

What will you do:

  • Act as the team lead to drive the network projects and initiatives to completion.
  • Conceptualize and lead the team through building an efficient tooling/automation to monitor and operate a highly reliable and self-healing infrastructure.
  • Routinely and consistently push the team forward through design discussions, troubleshooting complex problems, and resiliency discussions, ultimately delivering value to our clients.
  • Exhibit a technical understanding of application flows, interactions with infrastructure, and excellent judgment regarding decisions across many aspects of the project.
  • Be sought out as a “mentor and coach” by the team with various experience levels and a “dependable resource” in network engineering across the organization.
  • Break down the complexity of projects, services, and processes while communicating with other engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Effectively deliver projects with significant stakeholders or complexity while recognizing vital risks and managing dependencies.
  • Lead the team during operational incidents, root cause analysis, and identifying improvement areas to avoid repeat incidents.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 12+ years of experience.
  • Experience in Observability and SRE principles using tools like DataDog, LogicMonitor, or similar.
  • Experience in Network automation using Ansible or infrastructure as a code.
  • Experience with Application delivery using load balancers from F5 Networks or similar.
  • Exposure to integrated network with Cisco UCS, VMWare, or similar computing environments.
  • Experience leading a Data Center migration with insight into common pitfalls and challenges.
  • Adaptable to change and pivot based on situational challenges.
  • An intense curiosity to learn and apply towards advancing the network infrastructure stability.
  • Must show passion for the role and take responsibility for the team’s deliverables.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment in an agile fashion.
  • Practical and creative in problem-solving.

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $130,839 - $240,220 /yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
