Manager Data Privacy (Privacy Engineering)

Position Overview:

The Manager Data Privacy contributes to the success of Paylocity’s privacy program by identifying, assessing, and developing solutions to reduce privacy risks as part of a comprehensive and growing privacy program. This role will work closely with stakeholders from across the organization to champion consistent and effective data privacy practices while minimizing privacy risk and ensuring the protection of personal information. 

Reports To: Head of Data Privacy

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Data Privacy to advance the privacy strategy and execute the privacy roadmap
  • Monitor and evaluate evolving laws, rules, and regulations, and provide guidance to the business on the implementation of related requirements to help maintain compliance and strategic alignment
  • Provide subject matter expertise on a variety of privacy-related programs, initiatives, and workflows 
  • Work closely with product, engineering, legal, compliance, and security teams to align privacy initiatives with broader company goals and industry standards
  • Build and implement tools, frameworks, and guardrails for facilitating privacy best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and engineering, to embed privacy-by-design principles into product design and development, and business operations
  • Evaluate and optimize data collection and retention practices to minimize the data we collect and store while still meeting business needs
  • Develop and implement techniques to anonymize, pseudonymization, and deidentify data
  • Leads privacy risk assessments of our code, UX, 3rd party tools to ensure compliance with applicable privacy regulations, contractual commitments, policies, and standards
  • Conduct technical privacy assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential risks to personal information
  • Provide guidance on ways to continue the privacy management automation journey
  • Develop and maintain a privacy engineering roadmap
  • Lead activities related to data mapping and data discovery, including keeping data mapping current, and continuing to automate discovery of data within our environment
  • Lead the record retention and deletion program, including working with data stewards to execute the execute their responsibilities
  • Support incident response management process
  • Mentor and support privacy team members and privacy champions
  • Communicate project progress, escalations, and issues to key stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, law, cybersecurity, or related field of study
  • Master’s degree preferred, but not required
  • At least 7 years of experience in a similar role focused on privacy engineering, privacy, data protection, or related fields
  • At least 5 years of people management
  • In-depth knowledge of privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Certifications in privacy or security (e.g., CIPP, CIPT, CIPM, CISSP) are a plus
  • Experience with different privacy frameworks, such as GAPP and NIST
  • Strong understanding of engineering and cybersecurity principles and best practices
  • Understanding of programming languages and familiarity with database systems and data management
  • Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies and tools (e.g., differential privacy, encryption, tokenization, etc.)
  • Ability to translate privacy requirements into practical solutions and outcomes
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with OneTrust or other privacy management software

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $125,000 - $165,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
